The World Health Organisation has had its first director general. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus from Ethiopia will lead the WHO next.

He will be the first African to lead the UN agency, with a majority vote from 186 member states.

Tedros will be replacing Margaret who will step down from that position after 10 years. Her tenure was heavily criticized for missing some signs about the severity of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa which killed more than 11,000 people.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is an internationally recognized malaria researcher with a PhD in community health.
