Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame is advocating for Thursdays to be put aside as another day for the official wearing of African prints.
Former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, initiated the Friday wear some years ago.
“President Kufuor, during his time, instituted President’s Special Initiative that urged Ghanaians to put on African wear and it has changed the industry. It has improved the textile industry. It has improved the arts; more tailors became designers, look at the magazines that came up because we started believing in ourselves,” he said to Citi FM.
“I was asking ex-President Kufuor to tell Akufo-Addo to add the Thursday to the Friday, then the next president will add Wednesday, the other that follows will also add Tuesday until Mondays, which we all find boring when we wear European clothes. I believe that if we do that, the arts industry will grow.”
